Canon MX330 Printer Review

The Canon PIXMA MX330 photo inkjet printer doesn't match the performance of many of the best models in its class, but its inexpensive price tag and small bundle of features may suit some personal users. The machine's maximum ISO print speeds of around 8 pages per minute for text projects and 5 pages per minute for color make it a decently fast home multifunction photo printer. Since reviews note that Canon MX330 printer ink can become pricey and its output is less than satisfactory, however, the MX330 and its attractive initial price may not be the best option for those who do a lot of printing.

The device isn't all bad, with some nice elements such as a 30-sheet automatic document feeder for multiple-page jobs and a 4-in-1 design that provides printing, scanning, copying and faxing capabilities. The 1.8-inch LCD viewer and front panel work well together to provide a decent amount of control, with features like a scan-to-memory button, speed dialing for frequent fax numbers, and alert notifications for errors. Users can also easily monitor PIXMA MX330 printer ink levels.

Despite being principally a photo printer, the unit lacks memory card slots for the ability to print images directly. While it does include a software suite for editing photos by removing red eye or other blemishes, its final output, even at a resolution of 4800x1200 dpi using color PIXMA MX330 ink, is lackluster.

While Canon MX330 ink cartridges can become expensive over time, users can shop at third-party vendors for remanufactured replacements to reduce costs. The standard tricolor supply can yield around 244 pages and the black Canon MX330 ink cartridge can last 220 pages. High-capacity replacements are available for each, with the tricolor yielding 349 pages and the black lasting for around 401 pages.

This inkjet printer offers a decent range of features for its low price, from automatic duplexing to adequate speeds and multifunction capabilities. However, disappointing photo output and lack of memory card slots for direct image printing may cause buyers to choose other more capable models.
