Canon PC920 Printer Review
The Canon PC920 laser copier is designed for the home or small office user. It offers a wide range of copying features in a very compact and affordable package. Some users might want prefer an automatic document feeder. For printing, check out a model that features Okidata 43324403 toner.
The Canon PC920 laser copier is a versatile copy machine in a very compact frame. It measures only 11.8 inches by 19.6 inches by 17.6 inches and weighs 42.5 pounds. Consequently, it makes a good choice for a home office or small office where space is tight.
Its one major lacking feature is an automatic document feeder. The unit has only a flatbed scanning surface for copying, meaning pages must be scanned one at a time. The machine is capable of making up to 10 copiers per minute, but with only a flatbed scanner, copying speed will rely mainly on the user's ability to shuffle pages.
The unit has a surprisingly generous paper capacity. Its single drawer holds up to 250 sheets, and it also has a single-sheet manual bypass slot for alternate media. While a second drawer for alternate paper would have been convenient, it would certainly add to the size and weight of the unit.
Canon PC920 toner cartridges use a single cartridge system, which combines toner and a drum unit into a single laser toner cartridge. This makes it the only consumable that needs to be replaced. Each copier toner cartridge has a capacity of 4,000 pages, and is very affordably-priced, especially when using third-party compatible cartridges. Larger offices might want to consider a model that uses Dell 310-8098 toner, which has a page yield of 8,000 pages—that's double the amount the PC920 offers.
The copy speed of the machine is 10 pages per minute, which is actually impressive for its size and price. Copies come out very sharp and detailed. Text looks especially good. Graphics and photos are about average, but still very usable. For higher quality graphics, a model that offers color capabilities might be a better option, like one that uses Samsung CLP-Y300A toner.
Overall, the Canon PC920 is an excellent choice for tight office spaces that need a dedicated copy machine. Fast speeds and good output quality are impressive. Lack of a document feeder might be a problem for some users.
