Canon NP7130 Printer Review
The Canon NP7130 is outdated in features and functionality, but is still considered a very reliable, low-maintenance desktop copier that could benefit a small, low-volume office. It can only make black-and-white duplicates, but the laser technology assures that documents will be crisp and clear. Having completed a series of environmental testing, the NP7130 is also Energy Star qualified.
This machine uses the Canon Rapid Fusing System, which eliminates a warm-up time when the NP7130 is turned on. The first page of a task will begin printing in about 10 seconds, and the maximum output rate is 13 pages per minute. For each original document, up to 99 duplicates can be made per order. The size of images can be reduced or enlarged from 70-141%, or there are pre-sized options. Unfortunately, this unit does not offer duplex capabilities, but an automatic document feeder is present for continuous scanning of multiple pages.
Overall, the maximum capacities of this device are slightly below average compared to more current digital copiers, with the exception of the toners. Canon NP7130 toner cartridges can yield up to 5,000 pages, which is above average for an older unit. Its dimensions are 19.1x17.6x13 inches, and even with a full Canon NP7130 toner cartridge installed, it weighs less than 50 pounds. The paper capacity maxes out at 550 sheets, which is divided between a 500-sheet main input tray and a 50-sheet bypass tray. The overall monthly print capacity is limiting as well, at just 7,500 pages.
The reviews for this machine are middle-of-the-road, noting its lack of features and only mediocre speed. Though it is clearly a bit outdated, it is undeniably reliable. Additionally, this design requires minimal maintenance and low operational costs, mainly because of the low cost of replacement Canon NP7130 printer toner. It also helps that the drum unit will function for up to 30,000 prints.
The Canon NP7130 is a basic desktop copier with minimal flash but optimal durability. This unit could be beneficial in a home or micro office, but it will not last long in a busy environment.
