Canon 5070 Printer Review
Designed to manage various tasks in a large corporate environment with heavy volumes, the Canon imageRUNNER 5070 may not be a good fit in a small office, but will increase production in big offices. This digital all-in-one monochrome laser printer is fast, versatile, and designed to handle constant use with minimal wear and tear. Scanning, copying, and printing are the built-in features, while a fax function can be added with the purchase of a Super G3 fax board.
Speed is the name of the game with this device, clocking in at a maximum output rate of up to 50 pages per minute in Draft mode. This mode slightly reduces the amount of Canon 5070 toner applied per inch of paper, thus minimizing the length of time it takes to complete a document. To optimize quality, however, users should switch to Best mode, which will result in an impressive resolution of 2400x600 dpi when printing and 1200x600 dpi when making copies. The scanner has an internal resolution of 600x600 dpi.
This unit takes only about 30 seconds to warm up and 3 seconds to begin printing a task, which is largely due to the 512 MB of RAM and 20 GB hard drive. The intuitive drivers for the 5070 and color display panel make it easy to use via network or as a walk-up machine. Automatic duplexing is another important features, as is the 100-sheet automatic document feeder that is attached to the scanner. The display can also be used to change the size of copies, create watermarks, stop or monitor tasks, and check the level of Canon 5070 printer toner remaining.
Each imageRUNNER 5070 toner cartridge can yield up to 45,000 pages, while the drum unit for this machine can last for as many as 3,000,000 pages. Clearly, this device is not intended for occasional use. It measures approximately 47x25x29 inches and weighs 474 pounds, so it is also not designed for small offices. For such high-yielding toners, the replacement Canon 5070 toner cartridges are not overly expensive and will equate to a very low cost per printed page.
In addition to being versatile and efficient, this unit is expandable, with a paper capacity that can be increased from 4,150 sheets to 7,650 sheets. It is also customizable, with the fax function and multiple finishing options that can be added. Large corporate offices will pay a hefty price upfront, but operational costs will be minimal due to the high-yield and low cost of imageRUNNER 5070 toner cartridges.
