Canon 3225 Printer Review
For in-house tasks at the office, the Canon imageRUNNER 3225 base model will print, copy, and scan documents quickly and accurately. This high-capacity laser unit offers a variety of functions, as well as a number of optional upgrade features. Far from compact, the 3225 weighs 181 pounds and measures approximately 35x22x28 inches. Fortunately, it has wheels that make it much easier to move around.
If the machine is in sleep mode, which automatically happens when the 3225 is idle for a while, it will warm up in about 10 seconds. When the machine is powered on, however, it takes nearly 35 seconds to get warm. Once it is warmed up, the first page will begin copying in less than 4 seconds from the flatbed and less than 6 seconds from the ADF after the job is sent. As many as 25 pages per minute can be printed in the fastest print mode. To reach the maximum quality, which is 1200x600 dpi for copies and 1200x1200 dpi for prints, the speed is sacrificed to increase the amount of imageRUNNER 3225 toner used per inch.
Only a single Canon 3225 toner cartridge is needed for operation, though replacement toners will be needed eventually. Each imageRUNNER 3225 toner cartridge can yield up to 21,000 pages, keeping the average cost per page relatively low. The other consumable that will need to be replaced is the drum unit, but this will render 75,000 prints before a replacement is needed. Users have the option of purchasing compatible Canon 3225 printer toner and drum units at lower prices than OEM supplies.
The unit's built-in features include a 60 GB hard drive, USB and ethernet interfaces, and 512 MB of memory. The memory can be expanded up to 1 GB. Another expandable feature is the paper capacity. The base model offers a 550-sheet input tray, 50-sheet bypass tray, and a 100-sheet automatic document feeder. An additional 550-sheet tray can be added, as well as a 2,700-sheet paper deck. A second output tray can also be added to the 3225 so users don't have to constantly empty the output tray during large print and copy jobs.
Users that require fax communication in the office can purchase the optional Super G3 fax board. The address book will hold 1,800 contacts, 200 of which can be set as one-touch options. Finishing options can also be added, including stapling, hole-punching, collating, sorting, and saddle-stitching for making booklets.
Large offices with versatile daily tasks will benefit from a powerhouse machine like the 3225. With expandable features and efficient functions, production rates can easily grow. Third-party Canon 3225 toner helps to keep operational costs within most budgets, and the finishing features help to complete complex tasks with less manual labor for users.
