Canon 1018 Printer Review

The Canon imageRUNNER 1018 and 1018J are models in a series of monochrome laser devices that can print, copy and scan documents for heavy-duty home or small offices. While speeds of only 18 pages per minute are relatively slow among its class of robust all-in-one printers, the 1018 should still be able to support busy users. A number of elements help make up for its output speeds, however, from its long-lasting imageRUNNER 1018 printer toner and flexible paper handling to its range of connection options.

One of the few drawbacks to the 1018 is its lack of an automatic document feeder, which comes in handy for larger jobs because it enables continuous and unattended scanning. The unit's large size of 20x18x14 inches may also be of some concern to users that don't have an abundance of space or want a device that can share a desktop with their computer. Flexible connectivity makes up for this since users won't necessarily need their computer close by, thanks to its ethernet interface that provides wireless networking and an optional card reader attachment for printing straight from memory cards.

Paper handling is perhaps its most noteworthy feature, providing users a bypass tray for important jobs and automatic double-sided printing to conserve paper. The 1018 is equipped with a standard input capacity of 600 pages, but users have the option to increase the supply to a maximum of 1,100 pages if they are trying to enhance productivity.

The unit's basic control panel will allow users to perform tasks such as copying a document between 1 and 99 times, select between monochrome and color copies and choose where to send a scan. The panel also has a monochrome LCD that will display status updates on jobs, alerts when paper or Canon 1018 toner are low, or when there is a printing error.

The device can print and copy jobs with satisfactory detail and a sharp maximum resolution of 1200x600 dpi using black imageRUNNER 1018 toner. Instead of operating with multiple toners, this machine uses one black Canon 1018 toner cartridge that is inexpensive to replace. With each replacement Canon 1018 toner cartridge yielding up to 8,400 pages, this unit is able to handle large volumes with low operating costs.

Users will be able to send color scans to a number of destinations, print original documents and copy an important job dozens of times with the 1018, all for a low price. Despite the lack of an automatic document feeder and its slower output speeds, this multifunction printer is a good solution for small or home offices with increasing workflows.
