Canon MF6550 Printer Review

The Canon MF6550 is a multifunction monochrome laser printer designed for the home or small office user. It has great speeds, duplexing, and faxing, but it doesn't include ethernet built in, and it's a little on the heavy side for some home users. For simple printing without all the functions, take a look at the Dell 3010cn that features Dell 341-3568 toner.

The Canon MF6550 tends to be more compact than most multifunction devices in its class. Other models that match its large paper capacity and printing speeds tend to be bulkier. Measuring 27.1 inches by 23.7 inches by 22 inches, however, it may not fit into the tight spaces of many home offices. Also, its heavy weight of 56 pounds will require two or more people to move it around, a thought that may not be appealing to some.

What you do get with the extra size and weight is a large paper capacity, for one. The MF6550 can fit 500 sheets in its main paper tray, and 100 sheets in its multipurpose tray, for a total of 600 sheets. Print speed is a fast 23 pages per minute. Print quality is everything one would expect from Canon. Text is clear and defined, and characters are sharp and readable even at small font sizes. Graphics quality also tends to be a little better than average for a laser printer. For color graphics, go with a model that uses Xerox 106R01392 toner instead of the MF6550.

Overall, the Canon MF6550 has virtually every feature a home or small office would need, as long as built-in networking is not a necessity. Users with a tight office space may be turned away by its size and weight.
