Canon MF3222 Printer Review
The Canon imageCLASS MF3222 is a multifunction device that can print, copy and scan documents for offices with light-duty volumes. When printing and copying jobs, the device can achieve a maximum output of 20 pages per minute, which is on par compared to laser printers in its price range. The unit's cost-efficient imageCLASS MF3222 printer toner and easy to use all-in-one design are some of its highlights, but overall the unit's bundle of features is standard among similar small office printers.
Users will be able to access a number of the MF3222's copy functions straight from the front panel to enable standalone use, including buttons to select a copy mode, a zoom ratio of between 50% and 200% and the option to duplicate a job between 1 and 99 times. The front panel also includes a 4-way pad to navigate menu options, a monochrome LCD for updates on projects and an LED that will flash when Canon MF3222 toner has expired. To access print functions, however, users will need a computer with either Mac or Windows operating systems, and it connects via a single USB port.
The MF3222 is best suited for low volumes due to its maximum paper capacity of only 250 pages, lack of a duplex printing option and memory of only 32 MB. The device is also missing an automatic document feeder, which is a standard fixture in multifunction units that enables continuous scanning for larger jobs. However, the scanner is equipped with tools that will allow the device to scan color documents and send jobs to file or email locations.
The unit is able to print jobs such as text documents and graphics with enough detail to satisfy internal distribution and a maximum resolution of 1200x600 dpi using imageCLASS MF3222 toner. The device is also able to copy original documents with a crisp resolution of 600x600 dpi, while it can scan with an optical resolution of 600x1200 dpi.
Units that operate with multiple toners often become expensive to use, but this machine has low running costs due to its efficient single black Canon MF3222 toner cartridge that can yield up to 2,500 pages. Users can further reduce expenses by purchasing affordable remanufactured Canon MF3222 toner cartridges instead of OEM supplies.
When comparing the MF3222 to other all-in-one office devices in its class, it has a relatively low cost and manages to still bundle an adequate number of features. While this excludes an automatic document feeder, double-sided printing and a built-in fax machine, the device still impresses with its affordable 3-in-1 design and decent output quality.
