The Brother MFC-8220 is a force to be reckoned with when it comes to features. It offers printing, scanning, copying and faxing. If only printing is needed, consider the Brother HL-2140 toner printer instead. The MFC-8220 has fast speeds all around and quality laser output that will leave documents looking professional when finished. With a parallel and USB interface, it is versatile when it comes to connective options. It has 32 MB of standard memory, and that memory can be upgraded to up to 160 MB. Windows and Mac compatible, it has a monthly duty cycle of up to 20,000 pages which will surely get the job done for small businesses or mid level offices, and the Brother MFC-8220 toner is relatively inexpensive.

Using one black Brother MFC-8220 toner cartridge, up to 21 pages per minute can be printed. Resolutions of up to 2400x600 dpi are possible, which is quite impressive and will leave documents looking high quality and professional. The Brother toner can last up to 3,500 pages if the standard version is used. If the high capacity version is used, however, the printer toner can last 6,700 pages. These toners are both quite impressive.

The fax portion offers black-and-white faxing with speeds of up to 2 seconds per pages. The modem speed is 33.6 Kbps, and a workable telephone is also included. It comes with a corded telephone handset, call waiting, caller ID, ring ready, fax forwarding, automatic redial and 600 page fax memory. Faxes print grayscale.

The copier offers a 30-page auto document feeder and is a traditional sheet fed version. Up to 21 pages per minutes can be copied per minute using the black Brother MFC-8220 toner. Reductions and enlargements from 24%-400% can be made.

The scanner offers standard resolutions of 300x600 dpi, while the interpolated resolution can reach 9600 dpi. OCR or Optical Character Recognition is offered which turns scanned text into editable text, and scan-to-email also comes standard.
