Brother MFC-6650 Printer Review
The Brother MFC-6650 and MFC-6650MC are a series of laser devices that provide a solid package of features and multifunction capabilities for a low price tag. Output speeds for the MFC-6650 are some of the slowest among models in its price range, printing monochrome documents at a maximum of only 6 pages per minute. While this device uses high-yielding toners and can print, scan, copy and fax documents for inexpensive rates, it lacks many standard multifunction capabilities and is best fit for home offices rather than busy small offices.
One perk to the MFC-6650 is that it manages to bundle 4 functions into a compact design that measures just 18x12x9 inches, which some may see as more efficient than using multiple devices with more individual versatility. The versatility that this unit sacrifices might be too much for certain users, however, omitting popular features like an automatic document feeder for continuous scanning, double-sided printing and ample paper handling. Instead, the unit only provides a single input tray that can store up to 200 pages of legal-size paper.
When connecting to print a document, send a scan or receive fax, users are limited to a single parallel interface that might require a USB adapter for those with newer computers. Standalone copying is enabled through its front panel design, which will allow users to select the number of duplicates needed and the scaling. The panel also includes a monochrome LCD for updates on job status, a numeric pad for dialing fax numbers and a pad to navigate basic menu features.
When copying a job, the device stays relatively true to the quality of the original document by duplicating with a maximum resolution of 400 dpi. Jobs like text and graphics print with adequate detail and a maximum resolution of 600 dpi using black Brother MFC-6650 printer toner.
The unit operates with a single black Brother MFC-6650 toner cartridge that can last up to 2,200 pages and support low to medium-volume needs for a low cost. When replacing supplies, users can select remanufactured options over OEM Brother MFC-6650 toner cartridges to further lower printing expenses.
There aren't many models on the market that provide a full 4-in-1 design for a price as low as the MFC-6650, but users would be choosing price over features with this device considering its simple design. While output quality is satisfactory and supplies will last long periods of time before expiring, this monochrome printer is too simplistic to recommend to home offices with demanding volumes.
