Brother MFC-250C Ink Cartridges

The Brother MFC-250C is a standard multifunction device, providing basic print, scan, copy and fax capabilities. As an inexpensive home unit, the MFC-250C's maximum print speeds of 27 pages per minute for monochrome documents and 22 pages per minute for color jobs are relatively quick for its class. From quick speeds and flexible connectivity to its 4-in-1 design, this inkjet printer is one of the best solutions for home offices with low to moderate volumes.

Although meant for homes, the MFC-250C has a very business-oriented bundle of features that will allow it to function as a standalone copier and fax machine, store up to 40 speed dial stations and scan a document straight to email. Unfortunately the machine lacks a few key features seen in high-end multifunction units, such as double-sided printing and an automatic document feeder for continuous scanning.

For its price range, the device has an impressive array of connectivity such as a PictBridge-enabled port for printing photos straight from a user's camera as well as a front USB port that supports PC-free flash drive printing. The flatbed scanner is also a nice touch and will allow users to scan or copy thick or odd-shaped documents like bound books. Paper handling is limited to a single input tray that can hold up to 100 pages of plain paper.

Whether users have monochrome text documents or full-color photos, this device can print a decent output with a maximum resolution of 6000x1200 dpi using Brother MFC-250C printer ink. The scanner can achieve an optical resolution of 1200x2400 dpi, while the unit can copy jobs with a total resolution of 1200x1200 dpi.

The device comes with starter Brother MFC-250C ink cartridges that can last up to 325 pages for the cyan, magenta and yellow supplies, and 450 pages for the black supply. Users can replace these with optional high-capacity color Brother MFC-250C printer ink cartridges that yield up to 750 pages.

What is nice about the MFC-250C is the fact that it has a mostly well-balanced design despite its low price, offering moderately quick output speeds, PC-free functions and wireless connectivity. While it doesn't offer a full package of office-centric features like unattended scanning and faxing, this inkjet device is well worth the investment for medium volumes in home office environments.
