Brother 2600 Printer Review
The Brother Intellifax 2600 is an all-in-one laser device that has a design primarily geared toward faxing, but can also handle basic print, scan and copy jobs. The fax machine's max transmission speeds of only 14.4 Kbps have a relatively slow output of 6 second per page, while the unit can only copy documents at a rate of 10 pages per minute. Benefits like affordable Intellifax 2600 printer toner and 4-in-1 capabilities for a low price tag may be enough to draw buyers in, but this device is one of the lower-end models in its class of home office machines.
The 2600 is designed to handle the needs of low volume home offices, offering features such as a 200-sheet input tray, a memory of 2 MB and the option to store up to 90 pages to fax memory. Users can access a number of dedicated copy and fax features to allow for standalone use straight from its control panel, which has a telephone and fax switch key and a number pad that lets users select how many times a project needs to be duplicated. Additional built-in fax features include caller ID, delayed transmission and automatic redialing.
While the scanner's range of features is significantly smaller, the device does include a 20-sheet automatic document feeder for quick unattended scanning. The 2600's flatbed design also means users will be able to scan and copy large or uniquely shaped objects like books and magazines. The device can print and copy documents with a maximum resolution of 600 dpi using Brother 2600 toner, which is satisfactory enough for internal jobs.
Toners can become expensive to replace over time, but since this device only uses one black Brother 2600 toner cartridge replacing them will be cost-efficient. Running costs can also be cut if users opt for remanufactured replacements over the more expensive OEM Intellifax 2600 toner supplies. Since each Brother 2600 toner cartridge can last up to 2,200 pages, this machine should be able to support low to medium-volume home offices.
The 2600 isn't poorly designed, but it doesn't offer nearly as much versatility as some of the top models in its class of monochrome office machines. The fact that it includes 4 functions and features like an automatic document feeder and flexible fax capabilities is impressive considering its low price tag, but there are many other similar models that offer more effective designs.
