The Brother HL-5070 laser printer is designed for the home or small office user. The HL-5070 has fast printing speeds, built-in networking, and good paper capacity. Lack of expandability could be a limiting factor for some buyers.

The Brother HL-5070 laser printer, also known as the HL-5070N, is similar to other models in its line, but adds built-in ethernet networking for easily sharing it across a network of users. Setting up the network is very easy, as the unit handles most of the setup on its own, with its integrated Rendezvous technology. Once connected and shared, users can access the printer remotely through its embedded web server, to change settings or manage print jobs.

The paper capacity is 300 sheets total, with 250 sheets in the main drawer and 50 sheets in the multi-purpose tray. For the price, which is impressive. For this price, very few printers have both a multipurpose tray and built-in ethernet, which puts this model ahead of much of its competition. It also supports a wide range of media types, such as bond paper, transparencies, envelopes, and labels.

Brother HL-5070 toner cartridges have a capacity of 3,300 pages, but high-yield laser toner cartridges are available, with a capacity of 6,500 pages. Although the printer toner cartridges are very affordable, using third-party compatible cartridges, which are less expensive, will result in an even lower cost per page, for a very economical and budget-friendly printing solution.

Print speed is quite fast for the price, at around 17 pages per minute. Text print quality is excellent. Characters remain sharp and readable even at small font sizes. Graphics quality is below average, but good enough for occasional use.

Overall, the Brother HL-5070 has an impressive mix of speed, capacity, and features that will make most home and small office users very happy. Users who need high-quality graphics prints will have to look elsewhere.
