At a very affordable price, the Brother DCP-130C offers the essential features for a home or small office user. Its fast printing speeds will keep things moving, at 18 pages per minute for black and 16 pages per minute for color. Its maximum printing resolution of 1200 dpi makes for very sharp prints. Brother DCP-130C ink cartridges are very affordable as well, however HP 940XL Black ink produces a lower cost per page.

The printer accepts a wide variety of media, including envelopes, transparencies, plain paper, and cards. It also support various sizes up to a maximum of legal size. Paper capacity is only 100 sheets, which might be a bit small for heavy users, and the output tray only holds 50 sheets. Brother DCP-130C ink cartridges are split into individual colors, which saves the user money. The affordable price and decent capacities of Brother DCP-130C inkjet cartridges are beneficial to smaller offices, but for large offices with high volume demands, the WorkCentre C2424 using Xerox 108R00661 ink is a better choice.

The Brother DCP-130C can print, scan, and copy, but it does lack a faxing feature. This could be an issue for users who plan to fax, but for the majority of home users, this likely will not be an issue. The unit also lacks an automatic document feeder for scanning and copying, including only a flatbed scanning surface. This could be inconvenient for users who routinely scan multiple pages at once.

In their review of the Brother DCP-130C inkjet, Gadget Speak found its multiple features and its overall usability impressive. They criticized its slow color printing speeds and lackluster color quality, as well as its small single-line LCD display. Compared to competing models, such as those featuring Canon CLI-36 ink, the machine is affordably-priced, but many other models offer faxing and/or an ADF for just a little more money.

Overall, the Brother DCP-130C is a solid machine, but has nothing to really set it apart from its competition. Lack of faxing and an ADF make it tempting to spend a bit more money and have these features included.
