Brother 8060 Printer Review

The Brother 8060 and 8060p are standalone fax and copy machines that can handle basic monochrome projects. The laser unit takes around 1 minute to warm up and operates with moderate speeds, with a fax transmission speed of 14.4 Kbps and a first page out time when copying of approximately 20 seconds. None of the 8060's features are particularly impressive, and it is fairly slow, but it could perform adequately for small offices or those working from home.

The front panel offers simple controls, including a 1-line monochrome LCD display for monitoring job progress and Brother 8060 printer toner levels, as well as a full number keypad for fax dialing. The machine includes features like fax forwarding, error correction mode, telephone and fax switch, and a total fax memory capacity of 130 pages. The copier is able to create up to 99 duplicates from a single original, and offers users the ability to enlarge projects to a maximum of 200% and reduce them to a minimum of 50% from the original document.

The unit can handle up to 200 pages at once in its input tray, to support low-volume workgroups. Accepted media types include transparencies, envelopes, plain paper, cards and labels. For quick multiple-page faxing and copying, the device also incorporates a 20-sheet automatic document feeder.

The machine operates with a single, low-cost Brother 8060 toner cartridge that can yield up to 2,200 pages and print at a satisfactory output quality. The unit also uses a 12,000-sheet capacity drum unit that will rarely need to be replaced. To maintain cost-effective running expenses, users can replace expired black Brother 8060 toner cartridges with compatible supplies that are less expensive than OEM versions.

Considering its barebones design, the 8060 doesn't necessarily compete well with full-featured multipurpose machines. However, its affordable price tag and toners, coupled with a decent output, could make this monochrome fax and copy machine useful for low-volume offices on a budget.
