Brother MFC-1260 Printer Information
The Brother MFC-1260 is a basic monochrome laser printer with a small bundle of features for personal printing. Maximum speeds of only 12 pages per minute are slow compared to other personal printers, which can often print at speeds of up to 20 pages per minute. Other than its impressive media handling and long-lasting toners, this single-function device is a little too similar to other inexpensive monochrome units to make an impression on buyers.
The MFC-1260's handful of additional perks include the option to increase its standard RAM of 6 MB to a maximum of 66 MB or add automatic double-sided printing. The rest of its build is standard for budget printers, providing only wired USB port connectivity that enables it to connect directly to a user's computer. Provided drivers and utilities can be installed onto computers that use Mac and Windows operating systems. The front control panel offers little help, other than a button to turn the machine on and off and status LED lights.
While the MFC-1260 is ideal for light-duty use, its ample paper supply of 500 pages will allow it to support users that have more moderate printing needs. The machine can handle a maximum media size of 8.5x14 inches and media types such as labels, plain paper, transparencies and envelopes. When using plain paper in Best Quality mode, the device is capable of printing text and graphics with a decent maximum resolution of 1200x600 dpi using black Brother MFC-1260 printer toner.
The unit comes with a starter Brother MFC-1260 toner cartridge that can yield up to 3,000 pages before expiring. Optional high-capacity Brother MFC-1260 toner cartridge replacements double this yield to a maximum of 6,000 pages and will keep users from having to frequently replace supplies.
There is such a thing as being too simple, and the MFC-1260 may have hit that point by providing few control tools on the front panel and limited connectivity. While this allows it to be priced so low, buyers that don't mind spending more for a more flexible and well-rounded personal printer may want to keep shopping.
